Identity Direction Design

Main Street Tattoo is a Perth-based custom studio focused on elevating the tattoo experience. Positioning itself as a contemporary evolution of the medium, it hosts a curated roster of local and international artists spanning an eclectic range of styles, fostering a space that feels more like a collaborative collective than a conventional parlour. Driven by a desire to dismantle the intimidating misconceptions often associated with the industry, the studio sought to step away from the classic parlour archetype to cultivate a progressive, inclusive, and professional brand presence.

To realise this modern ethos, the visual identity was anchored in a clean, minimalist design language. Deliberately avoiding the heavy cursive and blackletter typography ubiquitous in tattoo culture, the rebrand opted for refined sans-serif typefaces. At the core of this contemporary direction sits a distinct 'M' motif. Which is a dynamic, geometric mark designed to subtly echo the rapid pulse and jagged oscillation of a working tattoo needle. This central icon was then expanded into structured pattern work, establishing a cohesive visual system across all touchpoints.

The true success of the identity lies in its restraint. By establishing a neutral but confident brand framework, the design allows the disparate, highly detailed work of the resident artists to take centre stage without visual competition. Ultimately, this open and approachable presence successfully removes friction, lowering the barrier to entry for a new demographic of clientele while maintaining the uncompromising integrity of the craft.
